Our art gallery, Jodar, holds much significance to us. Starting with the name, which is a blending of the two words Jordan and Dar, with dar meaning home in Arabic. In this regard, the home is intended to stand as a symbol for a protected space, where one is comfortable and can be themselves. Similar to the mother’s womb, the home should nurture and facilitate growth. Even more so, as stated by Gaston Bachelard, “The house shelters daydreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.”
The house is also where the family is, the first greatly influential powers in every individuals’ life. At Jodar we like to think of our community as an extension of the family, providing support, guidance, and motivation.
Located in a quiet area within Amman, the space serves as an encouraging, inspiring and relaxing atmosphere for artists across the region to come together and express their love for art and the production of beauty. The great poet Rumi expressed, “Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.”
Our gallery is dedicated to supporting both established and emerging artists alike, by holding exhibitions, pop-ups, workshops, talks, classes, support groups and more.
If you are an art lover like us, whether you have begun developing your passions or not; know that a family is waiting for you at Jodar Artistry to help you reach your highest goals.
With love,
Raida Shahin
Tala Abu Nuwar

She graduated from the University of Jordan with a BA in Sociology and obtained her Master’s Degree in Fine Arts Digital from The University of the Arts London with Distinction. She also worked as an apprentice under Jordanian artists for two years. She also worked as an art teacher for ten years at both national and international schools. Currently, Ala’a is a fulltime freelance artist.
She admires all forms of visual and performing arts and loves reading books. Sculpture art, piano, and Ballet are her favorite.
“I aim to create an aesthetically unique piece of art that emphasizes the beauty of natural effects of texture and color incorporated with Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic art.”
Dalia is a Jordanian Palestinian Bahraini artist, born in Kuwait. She graduated from MIT in the USA with a Bachelor of Science in Art and Design and a Masters in Architecture. Her passion for art started at an early stage and her years in Boston exposed her to the work of many international artists.
Regionally, she has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Amman, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Jerusalem, Ramallah, Virginia, and Connecticut. Although her subjects may vary between figures and built form, the sense of expression is constant. Dalia’s medium of choice is acrylic which she enjoys experimenting with, on different surfaces such as newspapers, patterned paper, sand, etc., to produce very interesting effects.
Through layering, Dalia allows the underlying colors and textures to come through in some places to enrich the painting. She is continuously striving to minimize detail and abstractize the world around her whilst maintaining meaning and content in its most attractive form.
From a young age, Eskander took solace in painting, drawing and Pop Culture. He believes there has never been a time he hasn’t done something with art. He was keen to learn all about society and human condition. Dewani branched out with portraits to personate with the viewer and creating emotions and feelings.
“My paintings usually are of women, with strengths and a certain beauty I would like to think I am complimenting the many facets of the female gaze of which I would hope that these portraits express an emotion and liking of what I try to create.”
Faten began her artistic journey as an aspiring interior designer after completing her diploma from the New York Institute of Art and Design. She eventually started to gravitate towards painting and decided to devote all her time to this medium. Faten’s artistic eye and her strong grasp of how colors work together helped her make the transition from being an interior designer to a painter. Faten took part in several workshops with notable artists and attended many art classes and painting courses.
In the hope of showcasing her art, she has participated in exhibitions such as Visions, Gallery 21, and Woman on the Rise. As an impressionist, she relies on oil and acrylic paints and has experimented with different ideas in her art. On one hand, she is inspired by the Sufi whirling and has produced several paintings of dervishes performing the dance. On the other hand, women of different backgrounds and ages make an appearance on her canvases.
Ghalia graduated from Bahrain Bayan School with a Full International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with Distinction, then moved to the United States for university, to Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she studied illustration for a year and then decided wanted to explore something more challenging, Textile Design.
Upon graduation with BFA in Textile Design, she interned with the world-renowned fashion house, Missoni, where she was given the freedom to explore her love for texture, fabric, and color and translating it into knit samples. Now, she primarily works with acrylic, collage, and experiments with a variety of materials. Ghalia is also very passionate about recycling and reusing a variety of materials, and always thinking of ways to incorporate it into her art.
Born in Italy, Giuse Maggi is a multidisciplinary artist who loves to explore materials and their potential with antique and new techniques. Working with glass for over three decades, it was only in 2013 that she became aware of the impressionability of sustainable art and the limitless possibilities that found materials, discarded matter and plastic waste, offered. Since then, she has tirelessly experimented with combining plastic, metal and natural fiber with her beloved medium, glass, whereby she weaves, ties, melts and binds these contradictory materials together.
The process is one of intense labour, often physically and mentally demanding, yet, Giuse also considers it spiritual; a series of rituals that connect her soul to her pieces. She studied ceramic and glass making in both Italy and the USA. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Italy. She currently lives in Bahrain where she works as a full-time artist.
A Bahraini national of American and Palestinian origin, Karima studied IB art in Bahrain School and spent a semester at Parsons School of Design in New York. She later transferred to McGill University in Montreal, Canada, to study Political Science and Humanities. It was during these studies that she learned a lot about symbols in art history, philosophy, and spiritual thought.
Karima’s art combines the beauty of Arabic lettering, most often associated with Islamic design, with other religious and cultural symbols. Her work provides a glimpse into one’s emotions as she employs symbols and words that best articulate specific, and at the same time universal, feelings of joy and love, strength and struggle, or the overcoming of suffering and loss. The emblems she creates are in effect birthed from her clients’ stories of growth and transformation, and these stories, as well as her own path to healing, imbue her seemingly simple designs with profound meaning.
Karina recognized her artistic abilities at a very young age. Her circumstances at home enabled her to develop her talents which were influenced by the beauty of her natural surroundings, the sounds of musical instruments played at her home, and her affection for yoga as well as the overall support and love given to her by her family.
Home to Karina had its limitations. Her dreams and aspirations went beyond borders and her environment encouraging her to travel the world from East to West to explore cultures and civilizations. Karina’s heart and imagination were captivated by the mysteries of Dilmun leading her on a journey to unravel the origins of certain civilizations and dynasties which today are reflected in her art.
Maryam graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a degree in Interior Design. Painting was her childhood passion, and she displayed a remarkable skill for drawing and painting as a child and was encouraged by her parents who were art enthusiasts. She took painting classes with a number of well-known artists.
Maryam works predominantly in medium of painting and her artworks are mostly acrylic, watercolor, and oil. She participated in a number of art exhibitions including the Bahraini Female Artists Exhibition. Currently, Maryam is working towards her solo art exhibition.
Born and raised in Bahrain, Maryam Abdulla Nass received her bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California where she studied International Business. She started painting on porcelain at the young age of 15 and rediscovered her abandoned love for art, in 2005. Art became a mean of achieving internal peace and a silent medium for dialogue.
Abstract art is a way for her to express, rather than illustrate, feelings and inner emotions. “Being a diarist all my life, and a person who does not express myself verbally, painting became a way of expressing myself without the use of words. Words are not always understood, but, through a painting one can portray hidden messages and meanings. My paintings are a lot like me, they don’t tell the whole story. Today, a painting rather than a paragraph can become an extra page in my diary.”
May is an emerging Bahraini artist who has experimented with multiple mediums before finding her place in painting. Her studio, where she passionately toiled away, became the embryo for a rich and exciting artistic journey. Born out of her private practice, was an artistic language seeped deeply in the beauty and vulnerability of the human condition.
By opening up her studio to friends and art collectors alike, Hejiri found the confidence and support to further dive into a newly discovered artistic career. Since then, she has been awarded a residency at Bait Al Salmaniya and has found homes for her work extensively throughout her network of art aficionados.

Nathaly is a lifestyle designer, cultural experiences curator, and an entrepreneur. French-German born Nathaly grew up in North Africa where her passion for art and traditional crafts was born. As a designer and entrepreneur, she enjoys expanding boundaries of what constitutes art and making it accessible in fun and innovative ways.
Moving to Bahrain in 2009, her focus shifted: Yalla Habibi was created in 2015 and Nathaly started designing embroidered cushions, incorporating Bahraini traditional textiles alongside designs by local artists. Soon after, she also started collaborating with Syrian artisans, creating collections of wooden objects, inlaid with mother of pearl. In addition to her artistic activities with Yalla Habibi, Nathaly designs objects and giveaways for corporate clients and special occasions, curates pop-up shops, and creates custom artwork for product launches and interior designers.
Sahar completed her art degree at The National School of Art in Kerman, Iran. Meanwhile, she offered painting sessions in her private art studio for six years. Additionally, she had participated in a couple of art exhibitions at The Sahar Art Gallery, and the 2016 BAB exhibition.
Sahar’s view of life, to find inspiration everywhere; and contemporary art is a source of among many others, such as beautiful Bahrain, culture, and a woman’s world in combination with love. “I work with the acrylic on canvas because I want to comprise some of the typical illustration elements in my paintings. I use both strong and cheerful colors, which is part of my character, to show women’s sensitivity, and at the same time, mystery, in an instinctive way.”
Started her art journey in 2012 as a portraitist, Shahnaz’s progress improved dramatically, and by late 2014 she started conducting her own workshops and taught hundreds of passionate individuals. “People always say the sky is your limit and I always say it’s much more beyond it, you just need to take the risk to discover your potentials.”
Art has always been her passion, her hideaway world to be on her own and expresses the things she sees the way she feels. In her artworks, Shahnaz uses charcoal and mixes between realism and surrealism school as those two schools that can connect to her ideas and the way she visualizes art and the target is the hyperrealism level. Over the past 7 years, she volunteered in conducting workshops in her country to encourage young artists to express their ideas and take them away from digital gadgets.

After a successful career as a marketing executive in telecom for 18 years and raising 4 children from ages 15 to 1, Tala had a spiritual awakening that it was time to leave the corporate world and make a new type of impact-no matter how small- by following her intuition and her passion for mixing art with Islamic mysticism, Rumi’s wisdom, Arabic poetry & yoga philosophy.
She and her family made the decision to move back to Amman to live more from a place of belonging, purpose and uninhibited creativity. Her work – mainly layered, movable pieces using raw Arabic calligraphy and eclectic materials like wood, acrylic, glass, mirrors, and fabric- each tell a unique story of spiritual insight and are reflections of Tala’s own quest for spiritual enlightenment and Oneness and her desire to share it with those around her.
When Thajba paints, she becomes her art. You will find her in all her artwork, throwing fierce energy and colors back at you. She calls her work, “a beautiful mess”. This is her visual translation of what is splattered in her vision – color, life, and energy.
Nested on a small island called Bahrain, she has roots from Lahore, Pakistan, and branches flowing from USA and Dubai – where she studied art. After trying out a career as an interior designer, she decided to spread her creative force in a classroom where she enjoyed hearing the echo of her voice as a teacher – talking about art, the movements, the artists, brilliant ideas and concepts. Thaj, as her loved ones call her, scribbled, sketched and painted her way into adulthood, as she grew into an artist, her art grew into a living, breathing energy – on canvas.

Jodar artistry 2019
